Mr Antonios Athanasiou

Mr Antonios Athanasiou is one of Brighton’s leading surgeons. He works in the NHS at Royal Sussex County Hospital and practices privately at the Montefiore Hospital and Nuffield Hospitals in Brighton and Haywards Heath. Mr Athanasiou specialises in minimally invasive keyhole surgery techniques including laparoscopic surgery for gallbladder disease, inguinal hernia, reflux disease, weight loss and gastrointestinal conditions. He also assists with diagnosis and treatment using upper GI endoscopy.

Mr Athanasiou began his career in general surgery in 2006. During his training, he completed three fellowships in bariatric and esophago-gastric surgery under the tutorage of leading surgeons. Whilst he was training, Mr Athanasiou gained his PhD in liver regeneration which has been published widely. He has also been widely published in numerous field-related, peer-reviewed journals.

At RefluxUK, Mr Athanasiou specialises in the diagnostics and treatment of reflux patients and performs fundoplications and the LINX procedure from Nuffield Brighton Hospital, and attends our monthly MDT to provide his expert opinion.
