Testimonials / Wendy - Kent
I had really bad reflux including burning in the throat, heartburn, regurgitation and waking at night which got worse over a period of about 6 months. The symptoms then got worse as I developed nocturnal vomiting. This was highly unpleasant and embarrassing especially if staying away from home.
I was recommended to Nick Boyle at Spire Tunbridge Wells by BUPA.
Nick explained things very clearly and asked the right questions. I got all the information and plenty of time to make a decision, I never felt under pressure to make a decision to have surgery.
Surgery was painful, it worse than I expected and I was a bit shocked at how my tummy looked afterwards. The pain lasted about a week and then it was fine.
I had no appetite for the first couple of days, then when I tried to drink a milkshake I vomited it up straight away. I had to avoid certain foods which caused vomiting, for example steak and bread. I kept to softer foods for a few weeks, the most important thing was I had to learn to eat properly again – eating slowly and chewing properly, I even had to drink slowly. I developed neck & chest pain in that period due to oesophageal spasm, this resulted in a hospital admission for a few days with nil by mouth. Then I had more spasms resulting in A&E attendance, this carried on for a week or so but was treated with medication and eventually went away, although I do have to be careful to eat properly.
No reflux symptoms at all but if I eat too quickly I can vomit so I’m very careful about this.
Even though I went through a lot of pain in recovery I would still have it again. My life is transformed and it was totally worth it.
