Expertise / Professor Dae Kim
Professor Dae Kim works closely with Head & Neck team at the Royal Marsden Hospital, however, he is based at the St George’s Teaching Hospital in London. His duel-qualifications lie in Medicine (Edinburgh) and Dentistry. He proceeded to train at Edinburgh and Cambridge teaching hospitals. He completed a specialist ENT while training with the Advanced Fellowship in Head & Neck and Endocrine Surgery, Toronto University Hospitals; this provided him with expertise in minimally-invasive 'key-hole' thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Professor Kim possesses a strong commitment to research. He was research fellow at the Harvard Medical School and completed a PhD degree in thyroid and head & neck cancers. For this he was awarded the prestigious 'Syme Medal' by the Royal College of Surgeons. He has written multiple peer-reviewed publications, many in prestigious journals, and several specialist surgical book chapters. He has also been awarded numerous research grants and countless national and international prizes (from the American Thyroid Association and British Association of Endocrine Surgeons). He was recognised for his contribution to surgical innovation and research with the award of a Professorship in Surgery by Portsmouth University. At the moment, his research has a focus on treating advanced thyroid and head & neck cancers within the Targeted Therapy Team, Institute of Cancer Research, London. He supervises several Clinical Research Fellows undertaking MD/PhD doctorate studies in both clinical and genetic research.
